Hello there! My name is Alice and design is one of my many interests. My artistic expression is a very important aspect of me that's not just found in my work as a designer, but also in a plethora of other areas of my life. You may have noticed the fish found in the graphic on this site. I use a fish to symbolize myself for many reasons. Firstly, I was born in March and thus am a pisces. Secondly, it symbolizes the fluidity and intuitive ability that I strive for in my work and in my life. Thirdly, fish are naturally happy and optimistic and so am I!
Art has always been a part of my life. I've been painting and drawing since I was very little. I began learning about graphic art and the web at age 11 when I started creating complex pixel art in Microsoft Paint (really?! Yes, really). I also taught myself HTML and CSS at that age. I began making my own websites and helping friends make their own as well. I continued to do create images and websites up until college, where I was convinced I was going to be a biologist!
At the University of Washington, it didn't take me long to switch my major to the Visual Communication Design program after two stressful quarters of the program's selection process. I graduated in 2007 with a BFA.
My focus has been on web design since I graduated. I've continue to learn and improve my skills. I taught myself JavaScript and the Joomla content management system, which has lead me to learn some PHP and gain database experience. I'm experienced with blogs, individual sites and corporate sites. I design primarily with the Adobe Design Suite (I've worked with CS2 - CS5). I typically code by hand in TextMate or using Dreamweaver on my MacBook Pro.
I am the type of personal that really like to live my values. I'm an environmentalist, and nature lover, which has lead me to enjoy a variety of outdoor activities from backpacking to farming (urban and rural). I enjoy traveling and feeling free to shape my own life. I'm also a humanitarian in that I get really excited when working towards helping others or even just cooking for them!
I also enjoy reading, writing, yoga, rollerskating, learning, and this list goes on. I'd say that's a good snapshot of me. If you have any questions or comments for me please visit my contact page. Thanks for reading!
